The 2008 election was a wave of success for the progressive movement -- now we have our work cut out for us. Preventing this wave from cresting prematurely depends on the strategic deployment of a well-integrated infrastructure to support our ongoing movement. Fostering the development of this infrastructure is what inspired the foundation of the Progressive Roundtable series of meetings in 2006.
This summer, leading movement actors and idea generators from institutions and organizations across the country will convene in Duluth, Minnesota. This 70-person retreat will feature two and a half days of creative discussion and strategizing, a public keynote address (TBA), a night of political theater, and an optional pre-conference outing to enjoy the beauty of the North Shore of Lake Superior. We have developed this intimate convening in consultation with senior leadership from key constituencies in the activist and policy sectors, including Center for Community Change, State Voices, state and regional think tanks, ProgressNow, and the Progressive Ideas Network.
Our challenge will be to answer the question: in the next five years, how can idea generators and grassroots activists build more integrated and effective processes for achieving progressive policy change at the state and local levels?
The state of Minnesota, and the city of Duluth in particular, is a success story of progressive politics. This fact, along with the natural beauty of Lake Superior in August, makes Duluth a perfect place for this retreat. Click here to learn more.
